Interim Fire Chief Chris Tubbs

chrisThank you for taking the opportunity to visit our District’s website. The Southern Marin Fire Protection District is proud to serve our community. The men and women of the Fire District take pride in providing its citizens with highest level of service possible.

The Southern Marin Fire Protection District is a modern “all risk" public safety agency, meaning we will respond to the needs of the community, regardless of the nature of the incident and begin the process of solving the problem to lead to a positive outcome.

SMFD is comprised of specialists in the areas of structural firefighting, Marine Firefighting, Hazardous Materials response, Urban Search and Rescue, Maritime Firefighting, Water Rescue, Dive Operations, Wildland Firefighting and strategic planning and command and control. Finally, every member of the SMFD is a trained Emergency Medical Technician or Nationally Accredited Paramedic. Emergency Medical Service accounts for the majority of our workload, and the SMFD places a high priority on providing pre-hospital emergency care.

I began my fire service career in 1978 with the Mercer Island (WA) Fire Department  I served that organziation for 35 years serving as Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief, and the final seven years at Mercer Island as Fire Chief.  I also served 19 years on the Washington Urban Search and Rescue Team (WATF-1), one of 28 DHS/FEMA USAR teams in the US.  I deployed to the Oklahoma City Bombing and to Hurricane Katrina.  I began my career with the Southern Marin Fire District in October of 2014 and I am very excited about being a part of this organization and community.  I am proud to serve as Interim Fire Chief of one of the most dynamic and well-trained fire service organizations anywhere.

It is our commitment to you that we stand ready to assist you in your time of need day or night, with compassion, professionalism, respect and dignity.

Best,

Chris Tubbs

Interim Fire Chief
